2026 International Friendship Karate Championships Terms and Conditions

Release of Liability

It's the branch/team representative's responsibility to acknowledge the terms and conditions below and pass them to their competitors and competitors' legal guardians to have them agree before signing up.

Organization's Name: International Karate Organization Nakamura and its directors, officers, employees, instructors, guides, agents, representatives, independent contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, sponsors, successors and assigns (all of whom are hereinafter referred to as “the I.K.O.N.”)

Karate Activity: The 2026 International Friendship Karate Championships (to be referred to as “TOURNAMENT” in this document)

DEFINITION
In this Release Agreement, the term “TOURNAMENT” shall include all activities, Karate matches, events or services provided, arranged, organized, conducted, sponsored or authorized by the I.K.O.N. as mentioned above and shall include, but is not limited to: running; jumping; climbing; physical contact; throwing, passing, hitting or kicking of an object; rental of Equipment; instructional courses, seminars and sessions; travel, transport and accommodation; and other such activities, events and services in any way connected with or related to TOURNAMENT.

In this Release Agreement, the term "TEAM" shall include the competitors, their legal guardians, and the branch or team representative representing their competitors and their legal guardians.

​SAFETY
My TEAM has been advised to wear all protective equipment that is required by the rules and regulations of the governing body for my TOURNAMENT. My TEAM is aware that the physical exertion required for TOURNAMENT and the forces exerted on the body can activate or aggravate pre-existing physical injuries, conditions, symptoms or congenital defects. My TEAM has been advised to seek medical advice if the competitors know or suspect that their physical condition may be incompatible with TOURNAMENT.

ASSUMPTION OF RISKS
My TEAM is aware of the risks, dangers and hazards associated with TOURNAMENT and my TEAM freely accepts and fully assumes all such risks, dangers, hazards and the possibility of personal injury, death, property damage or loss resulting therefrom.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY, WAIVER OF CLAIMS AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT
In consideration of the I.K.O.N. agreeing to my TEAM'S participation in TOURNAMENT and permitting my TEAM's use of their services, equipment and other facilities, and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which is acknowledged, my TEAM hereby agrees as follows;

  1. TO WAIVE ANY AND ALL CLAIMS that my TEAM has or may in the future have against the I.K.O.N. and to release the I.K.O.N. from any and all liability for any loss, damage, expense or injury, including death, that TEAM may suffer or that my next of kin may suffer, as a result of my participation in TOURNAMENT.

  2. TO HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFY THE I.K.O.N. for any and all liability for any property damage, loss or personal injury to any third party resulting from my TEAM's participation in TOURNAMENT.

  3. This Release Agreement shall be effective and binding upon my TEAM's heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators, assigns and representatives, in the event of my TEAM's death or incapacity;

  4. This Release Agreement and any rights, duties and obligations as between the parties to this Release Agreement shall be governed by and interpreted solely in accordance with the laws of the province or territory where the TOURNAMENT takes place and no other jurisdiction; and

  5. Any litigation involving the parties to this Release Agreement shall be brought solely within the province or territory where the TOURNAMENT takes place and shall be within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of that province or territory.

Tournament Format and Match Settings


My TEAM will comply with the Tournament Format and Match Settings set forth by the I.K.O.N., and act in accordance with the Kyokushin Karate rules and etiquette of Kyokushin Karate students in TOURNAMENT.

Photo and Video Release


My TEAM hereby authorizes the I.K.O.N. to use the image of me taken during TOURNAMENT in its public relations and communication materials to promote TOURNAMENT, the I.K.O.N. and Kyokushin Karate as a whole.

Entry Fees and Withdrawal
 

My TEAM agrees to forward the entry fee according to the fee setting below.

  • Kumite: US$60 per competitor

  • Kata: US$60 per competitor

  • Kumite and Kata: US$100 per competitor

My TEAM also understands and agrees that the full amount of the entry fee will be charged in case of withdrawing from TOURNAMENT within two months from the event date, regardless of the reason for the withdrawal.

Weigh-in Rules

My TEAM understands the weigh-in rules indicated below.

  • Competitors will be weighed in on Friday, December 11, at I.K.O.N. Honbu. The weigh-in will take place in the presence of the I.K.O.N. Honbu staff.

  • Competitors will be disqualified by the weight discrepancies described below.

  1. If his or her weight at the weigh-in exceeds the limit of the weight category they have registered, the competitor will be disqualified.

  2. If his or her weight at the weigh-in is heavier by more than 5 kg than their registered weight, the competitor will be disqualified.

  • A branch representative shall not allow their competitor to choose a weight category that forces them to lose their weight excessively. They shall help their competitor, underage students in particular, select an appropriate weight category according to their natural weight.

Protective Gear Guidelines

My TEAM understands the protective gear guidelines below and will bring mandatory gear accordingly.

  • Submit by July 25 (No Exception)

  • Entry Fees

    - Kumite: US$60.00

    - Kata: US$60.00

    - Kumite and Kata: US$100.00

  • Payment Methods:

    Cash Payment: You may pay your entry fees in cash at Honbu on or before December 11, along with the fees for the seminar and Sayonara Party. An invoice will be sent to you in October or November. Please prepare the exact amount in cash, as change may not be available.

    Bank Wire Transfer: After receiving the invoice from Honbu, you may choose to pay the total amount via bank wire transfer before coming to Japan. Honbu’s bank account information will be included in the invoice. We strongly recommend this method to avoid any hassle on the day of the event.

  • Protective Gear:

    Above on this page, please check the list to confirm which protective gear your competitors are required to bring and wear. If they don't have any of them, we strongly recommend ordering them online for hassle-free. If you would like to purchase from us, to ensure availability, please place your online order through Honbu by July 25.

Agreement and Waiver

  • the competitor below will comply with the competition rules set forth by IKO Nakamura, and act in accordance with the rules and etiquette of Kyokushin Karate students during the course of the event.

  • the competitor below possesses all protective gear required to compete in the category they select.

  • the competitor and his or her legal guardian understand there are risks involved in any physical activity, and therefore agree to not hold any sponsors, organizations or individuals responsible should an injury of any nature occur while taking part in this tournament.  

  • I, as an instructor of my competitors, take full responsibility to look after them during their stay in Japan, and to obtain travel insurance for any emergency including an injury.

  • to the best of my knowledge, the competitor does not carry virus such as HIV or Influenza which could infect others.

Honbu is aware of the concerns related to transgender and gender non-conforming individuals. At this time, we will continue with the traditional approach while we work toward reaching a thoughtful consensus on the matter among our Japanese and international representatives.

Warning! Honbu implements a 5-kg rule. If this competitor's actual weight turns out to be 5 kg heavier or more than their declared weight on this entry form, the competitor will be disqualified. This rule applies to ALL competitors including ones in the heavyweight divisions.

The entry fee will still be charged when the invoice is issued in October or November, even if the competitor is unable to participate.
